🍰 North Mason Culinary Students Recognized by United Way 🥧 For the third year in a row, North Mason culinary students created decadent desserts for the United Way Spring Dessert & Gift Auction. Their creations for the May 10th event included Fruit Tart with Pastry Cream, Spring Blossom Cookies, Raspberry Oatmeal Cookie Bars, and Lemon Blueberry mini bundt cakes. In addition to baking, students help with set up and take down of the event. At last week's United Way meeting, students and teachers, Rob Thomas and Heather Brase, were presented with a plaque to recognize their dedication to making the event a success. Rob Thomas is proud of his students, "giving back to the community that they live in," and, hopes that, "in the future, we can provide the lunch that goes along with the event to showcase more of our students' abilities." Congratulations on receiving this recognition from the United Way!

👨‍🚒👮‍♀️What do you want to be when you grow up?👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️ Students at NMHS had a great opportunity to speak directly with employers yesterday at the annual career fair. Interacting at the booths to learn more about potential careers, they asked questions and practiced "active listening," then moved on to mock interviews to prepare them for life after high school. One representative from Olympic College commented, "Super impressive. The kids are really engaged." Well done, Bulldogs! Thank you to all the companies who participated in this event, and a special thank you to the North Mason Chamber for organizing this opportunity for our students to explore future career paths.

🎵Congratulations Ava Longmate!🎵 Over the break, Ava Longmate qualified for the WIAA State Solo/Ensemble Contest. Back in March, the NMHS junior received a 1st alternate placing at the regional Solo/ Ensemble contest, earning her a spot to advance in the competition. The WIIA State Solo and Ensemble Contest is held Friday and Saturday April 26 & 27th on the campus of Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA, Ava will compete against other bass clarinets from all regions of our state with scores announced at the evening awards ceremony on the 27th. ⭐ Evolution of Excellence ⭐ Students from Hawkins Middle School and NMHS represented North Mason at the Technology Student Association state competition this past weekend. The students have been hard at work preparing for this huge competition since last October! Hawkins students participated in the VEX IQ Robotics competition and NMHS students took part in the Fashion Design competition. Congratulations to: middle school students: Alan Strange, Trevor Strange, Esteban Ponce Rodirguez, Fred Gaither, Aurora Martinez, Blake McDevitt, Gideon Partyka, Henry Griffin and high school students: Yadira Solis, Elizabeth Ordway and Ariyah Kluski. The Technology Student Association (TSA) is the only student organization in Washington devoted exclusively to the needs of students interested in STEM and technology. 🖌️ March is Youth Art Month! 🎨 This annual observance emphasizes the value of art, and art education, for all children and encourages support for quality school art programs. During the month we will be featuring student art work, the students who create them, as well as the art teachers that guide them. This inside look at our students' art education will be a chance to celebrate their creativity. First up, we are proud to share that two of our students were featured in the 2024 Olympic ESD 114 Regional High School Art Show. Emerson Lyons is featured for a graphite creation named, "A Shut-in-World," and Elizabeth Schacherts is featured for her oil painting, "Candle Fairy." Results of the show will be announced March 4th. Congratulations to both of these students for inclusion in this regional showcase. 📢 SAVE THE DATE! 📢 North Mason Drama Club is putting on an evening of one-act plays, "The Still Alarm" and "Sorry, Wrong Number" March 7, 8 and 9 at 7:00 pm in the auditorium. This is the Drama Club's main fundraiser for the year and everyone is invited! Hilary Gennaro is proud of the hard work her students have put in, preparing for these performances. "These winter plays are unique because they are tied to our advanced acting class. We do not get to do them every year. These plays are excellent as the students hone their acting skills and work all trimester on the production, similar to our spring musical." ⭐ NIGHT TO SHINE! ⭐ Thank you, Chelsea Youngs, for sharing this story about North Mason's 'Adulting in Our Community' students. "I wanted to share that five of our adult students attended an AMAZING formal event in Silverdale Friday, called A Night to Shine. I had the honor of being Bella's 'Buddy' for the evening. It was an amazing experience! This event took weeks of planning for our students as they had to get fitted for formal wear provided by the event. They also had to use adulting skills to advocate for themselves, get fitted for gowns and suits, and secure transportation. The evening provided food, hair and make up, tiaras, shoeshine, limo rides, photo booths, dancing, and bingo. There was even a marriage proposal! Oh, and Bella and Caullin made the Kitsap Sun!"

🏆 DECA Students Advance to State Conference 🏆 Extraordinary results for our DECA team on Friday, January 19th, when 81 students competed at the DECA Area 7 Career Development Conference in various Business & Marketing events against 19 other schools. Congratulations to the 45 students who qualified for the upcoming DECA State Career Development Conference in late February. Washington DECA provides a unique experience for students to immerse themselves in real-life business situations, presenting to industry professionals as they strive for a coveted spot to compete on the international level.
